The book largely focuses on the arrival of drifting in the US and it’s impact on ol’ Uncle Sam. There are large color photos spread over odd pages, along with thoughtful, engaging captions/5(8). House of Leaves is not an easy book to read. It will not only challenge your ability to hold a weighty tome at numerous different angles for prolonged periods of time as you endeavour to read text which is upside down, back to front and shoots vertically or diagonally up and down the page, but it will challenge your idea of what a novel is and how a novel should be presented/5(K). The illustrations are of autumn and winter landscapes, and of leaves in all the varieties of their autumn colours, and in that exquisite form which they take when only the skeleton, so to speak, is left. Those of the latter class seem to us particularly good. —A somewhat similar book is From Leaf to Leaf: a Volume of Poems with Illustrations. David Rhodes's long-awaited new novel turns an unblinking eye on an array of eccentric characters and situations. The setting is Words, Wisconsin, an anonymous town of only a few hundred people. But under its sleepy surface, life rages/5.
